Our Story
Welcome to Taylor River Side Farm & Wildlife Preserve
This picturesque homestead on the Delaware River, in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, has been home to many generations of Taylors. It all started when Joshua Wright purchased this land in 1720. Dr. Edward Taylor started the long line of Taylors on this land when he married Sarah Merritt, the daughter of Thomasin (nee Wright) and Jacob Merritt, in the late 1780’s. In 2013, Peter and Lily Taylor, with their daughter Abby arrived from Canada to continue the family tradition. Abby represents the 12th generation since Joshua Wright. She represents the 9th generation of Taylors to live on the land. |
The new Taylors on the farm are embarking on a farming adventure! Master gardener, Lee Colley, who moved to the homestead in 2013 with his family, brings his passion and expertise to the farming operation. Lee is committed to the tradition of sustainable agriculture and has introduced several heirloom varieties of vegetables to the farm. Taylor River Side Farm is dedicated to growing nutritious and delicious food in a family friendly, Earth friendly, naturally beautiful, New Jersey setting, just 15 miles upriver from Philadelphia. |
Taylor Wildlife Preserve
In 1975, Joe and Sylvia (Syb) Taylor gave 86 acres of The Taylor River Side Farm as a conservation easement to the New Jersey Natural Lands Trust so that a wildlife refuge could be created. Since then, the public has been welcome to walk its trails and enjoy the myriad of bird and wildlife along the shores of the Delaware River and the marsh on the land.
The Friends of Taylor Wildlife Preserve was created in 1975 with 31 members of the Taylor family. There is a wider membership today, and the organization works hard at maintaining the 1.5 mile loop trail for walkers to enjoy from dawn until dusk.
Discover more about the farm's Flood History, events, and plenty of photos by visiting the Taylor Wildlife Preserve website.
